Service Members and Alumni: Content Creators Can Win Prizes!

Celebrate the Summer of Service with the California Service Corps! The California Volunteers Fund invites all current California Service Corps Members and alumni from #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, #CaliforniansForAll Youth Jobs Corps, California Climate Action Corps and AmeriCorps California to participate in our Summer of Service Creator Contest and get a chance to win fun prizes. Showcase your service and community impact through your unique artistic creations. Get creative and join us in celebrating our shared passion for service and community!

Summary: Summer of Service Creator Contest participants are invited to showcase their service experience and community impact through Instagram and TikTok and get a chance to win up to $500 in prizes. Participants can choose from two categories:

  • Video Category (creating a short video showcasing your service experience)
  • Graphic/Art Category (submitting a graphic or art design with a caption).

Participants will have a chance to win up to $500 in prizes and bragging rights! Prize money can be used to purchase a new wardrobe, an e-bike, a tablet, and so much more!

Grand Prize for Video:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $250

Grand Prize for Graphic/Art Design:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $250

People's Choice Award:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $250

*Prizes are provided by the California Volunteers Fund and delivered through an Amazon gift card.

Eligible to Enter:

  • Must be a current member in good standing with your program or an alumnus who completed their program between 2021 and 2024 of one of the following programs:
    • #CaliforniansForAll College Corps
    • #CaliforniansForAll Youth Jobs Corps
    • California Climate Action Corps
    • AmeriCorps California
  • Must be at least 18 years old or have parental/guardian consent if under 18.

Timeline:

  • Submission Period: July 15, 2024 – Aug 16, 2024
  • Deadline: August 16, 2024
  • Winners Announcement: We anticipate the week of September 1, 2024

Contest Categories (Choose ONE):

  • Video Category: Participants create a short video (less than 60 seconds) showcasing their service experience and the impact on their community.
  • Graphic/Art Category: Participants submit a graphic or art design and includes a caption (100-200 words) showcasing their service experience and the impact on their community.

Using art, graphic or a video, tell us:

  • How has serving your community impacted your life and perspective?
  • How have your efforts positively impacted people in your community?
  • Why should others join the California Service Corps?

How to enter:

  • To enter to win, participants must:
  • Be a current member or alumni of the California Service Corps: #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, #CaliforniansForAll Youth Jobs Corps, California Climate Action Corps and AmeriCorps California.
  • Submit content via the submission form on the California Volunteers Fund website.
  • Each entry must include:
    • Name
    • Email Address
    • Mailing Address
    • Social Media Handle
    • Link to your post on Instagram or TikTok
    • Status as either a current service member or alumni
    • Name of your program
    • Name of Community Host Organization (if applicable)
  • Post the content on Instagram or TikTok.
  • Tag @CaliforniaVolunteers.
  • Include the hashtag #SummerOfServiceContest.
    • Participants are encouraged to tag current/former host partner(s) and/or campuses using their social media handles.

Submission Requirements:

  • Participants must submit original artistic creations that showcase their service and community impact.
  • Acceptable formats include, but are not limited to, videos, photos, and digital art.
  • Each participant can submit only one entry.
  • All entries must be submitted through the official contest platform by the deadline of August 16, 2024, at 5 p.m. PST.

Content Guidelines:

  • Submissions must be original and the intellectual property of the participant.
  • Content must be appropriate for all audiences and should not contain offensive, defamatory, or harmful material.
  • Photos and videos should be high quality and in appropriate formats (JPEG for photos, MP4 for videos).
  • Submissions should highlight the positive impact of the participant’s service and align with the spirit of the California Service Corps.

Voting Criteria

There will be a total of six winners in the Video, Graphic/Art, and People’s Choice categories. There will be a first and second place winner for each category. Limit one prize per entrant. All eligible entries will be judged by a panel of judges based on the following criteria:

Evaluation Metrics:

  • Quality and Presentation
  • Creativity and Originality as it relates to the theme and our core values of service
  • Overall Impact and Message

People's Choice Award Public Voting:

  • The top two submissions, with the most level of public engagement (e.g., likes, shares, comments)
  • Public voting will take place on social media platforms.

Judging panel will consist of five members from the California Volunteers Fund and California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. 

Winner Selection

  • Final Selection:
    • The winners will be selected based on the combined scores from the judging panel and public voting for the people’s choice award.
      • In the event of a tie, the entry with the highest score in overall impression/impact will be deemed the Winner. If there is still a tie, the judges will select the entry deemed to be the better entry overall. Potential Winners will be notified within thirty (30) days of the close of the Entry Period, by email. Each Potential Winner will be required to complete and return a Publicity Release Form, and a Release of Liability within ten (10) days of notification. If a Potential Winner does not respond to the notification or does not return the forms in the required time, the prize will go to the person with the next highest score. 
  • Only winners will be notified via email; it is anticipated the announcement will be made the week of September 1, 2024.
  • Prizes will be delivered via U.S. mail.

Cancellation Regulations

  • Contest Cancellation:
    • The California Volunteers Fund reserves the right to cancel the contest at any time due to unforeseen circumstances, insufficient participation, or other valid reasons.
    • In the event of cancellation, participants will be notified via email and a public announcement will be made on the official website.
  • Submission Withdrawal:
    • Participants may withdraw their submissions by contacting the contest administrators before the submission deadline.
  • Disqualification:
    • The California Volunteers Fund reserves the right to disqualify any submission that violates the eligibility requirements, content guidelines, or any other contest rules.
    • Disqualified participants may not be notified with the reason for disqualification.

By adhering to these guidelines, the "Summer Celebration Creator Contest" can ensure a fair, engaging, and inspiring celebration of community service.
